Review of This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers

Paperback, 320 pages
Expected publication: June 19th 2012 by St. Martin's Griffin
Young Adult
Received from NetGalley

It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up. As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually want to live. But as the days crawl by, the motivations for survival change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life—and death—inside. When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?

Review:
WOW! First off this book is not going to be for everyone. It is gritty, raw and gruesome. There are a lot of things that maybe 14 and under should not read. *Totally my opinion!*

I LOVED this! like I said it's raw and gritty and gruesome and EMOTIONAL! It will make you take a look at yourself and say "What would I really do in a situation like this?" The characters in this book are hanging on by a thread and then are put through the ringer...again and again.

The world building is spot on in putting you deep in this mess that has become the world. It will also put you through the emotional ringer.

Sloane is amazing. She doesn't set out to be and probably thinks she isn't but man I think she is. The things she has had to face/go through and then to be sucked into the middle of everything is just sad. She handles everything with detachment of a sorts but that changes and it's not an automatic event. It's a slow going process which is natural. All of the others are a mixed group from "before". All are very releateable in their own way and you will get attached.

This is a MUST read... *There is cussing everywhere but it's not out of context or anything. I would expect 17/18 year old to be talking like this in this situation.

Some People.... A Rant from SupaGurl

Ok.... So I don't normally do this.... but Here I go :)

I have read some reviews as of late and well I have had some problems with some of them. Yes this is only my opinion but here it is!

First off, If you are reading an Indie Author and you expect a "polished" Big Pub'd book you need to stop reviewing Indie books! If you know that going in there are going to be some "editing problems" yet you still give a crap review or 1 star because of that, You need to stop reviewing Indie books!

Second... when writing a review make your case for why you didn't like the book.... then move on the whole post doesn't need to be about the books "mistakes in editing" You should totally tell what problems you had with the book if you had some... plot line, characters attitudes and such.... If you have a problem with the Authors "voice" or whatever let people know this... Again The WHOLE thing doesn't need to be about TEARING an author down.

Now again this is just my opinion and well it probably isn't worth much. I love my indie authors and I DO NOT like to see them being attacked in any way!! They do not get to spend massive amounts of money getting edited or with someone going over every thing with them... YOU KNOW THIS, they are indie authors. Some are more "polished" than others... MOST of us are good with that.

Again everyone has the right to their opinions I'm glad we all do!! I just think as a reviewer you shouldn't try to attack/tear into any author! Also, I know my grammar is NOWHERE near perfect or even really great. I'm ok with it :)

I am now stepping off my little soap box ;)

Back to your regularly scheduled SupaGurl now!!!

1st - WHY??
2nd- Don't wait GET IT!!

I killed a girl last night. I did it with my bare hands and an old piece of pipe I found lying next to the dumpster. But that’s not the part that got me. The part that scared me, the part I can’t seem to wrap my head around and still has me reeling, was that when she charged me, her body shifted – and then she was a wolf. All snapping teeth and extended claws. But by the time I stood over her lifeless body, she was a girl again. That’s about the time I went into shock… And that was the moment he showed up. Now, all I can do is accept the truths that are staring me in the face. One, Werewolves do exist. And two, I was born to kill them.

Destiny Tour Kick-Off When Destiny Strikes by Heather White Review & Giveaway

This tour is for When Destiny Knocks and When Destiny Strikes! I have a review for...

Now that Karlie has received her full powers, things are going to be great... right?

Karlie's number one priority is to kill Serenity - after all she deserves it for trying to kill Alex. Though it isn't as easy as it sounds. Serenity teams up with demons to create an army to destroy Karlie.

On top of that, there are a ton of zombies, everywhere... And a new angel in town, who seems more like a demon... And of course, a shape shifter dragon! It's all weird, even for Karlie.

With friends turning against friends, it seems as though her life got a whole lot more complicated.
About the Author
Hi! I'm Heather M White, a YA Paranormal author. I'm 22 years old and I recently got married. I just moved from Saint Louis, Missouri to a very small town in Arkansas. My passion is: writing. I also like to read, and play guitar. And I love Dr. Pepper!

When Destiny Strikes Review:
Oh where to even begin? Well lets start with that AWESOME cover? Karlie is looking so bad ass on there!! I love it. I would have picked it up just for that.

In this book of the Destiny Saga you have Major action, Suspense and Love! oh and ZOMBIES!!! How can you go wrong with that combo? The story falls right in with where we left the gang plus the one new witch Serenity. I loved how everything flowed and progressed it was fast paced and exciting!

Karlie is coming into her powers full force and man can she do some damage! Who can she trust is a factor and man it's hard to know. Shane sticks by her through and through though *sigh* When it looks like he is the only one left that she can count on, he's there.

New friends that come in are so flippin cool!!! I love Hugh and Jessica the most. They are on top of it. Funny and fierce they are written really well and fit in with the story well. This book had everything I wanted and TONS more for the follow up Heather delivered an amazing book and I cannot wait for MORE!!! I totally hit FanGirl Mode when I see soemthing new from Heather.

Also, the ending is OMG and She did it again.... She has the major endings and this one is no exception to the awesomeness!

Make Sure to Follow the Tour for Exclusive content and Awesome posts from Heather!!

GIVEAWAY ONE Day ONLY!!!
Everyone who Comments will get a e-copy of When Destiny Knocks all you have to do is leave a comment and what format you need and email address!

  • Blog Name and addy
  • Date you can post *please give atleast 2*
  • Tour Stop *Review, Interview, Guest Post, Vlog, Giveaway
  • Format for e-book *sorry no print copies available*

Book Blurb:
I'll admit it: occasionally I like to pretend that my life is a movie, and that I'm the star…

Samantha acts without thinking. Her heart is huge while her sense of purpose is small; she's willing to fight for those she loves, but she's never learned to fight for herself. Eighteen-year-old Melody is cold and calculating, and she's driven by the desire to better herself. As these compelling yet deeply flawed women battle for the affections of 25-year-old Nathan, he becomes increasingly confused and torn between them.

Nathan is Melody's English teacher, and after he saves her from being raped, she becomes attached. Melody longs for the affection she's never felt, so she involves people in her self-invented drama, making sure she is at once the star and the director. Meanwhile, Samantha is newly married to Nathan. But Samantha has hang-ups about motherhood and lingering feelings for her ex. To make sense of the world, Sam relates her life to the themes of her favorite movies, while she independently makes a documentary to jump-start her non-existent film career.

Stylistically influenced by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Weiner, Starring in the Movie of my Life is told old alternately from both Samantha's and Melody's points-of-view and relates two complete yet combined stories about love, acceptance, and redemption. It speaks to our universal desire to be saved by the ones we love, and the monumental effort required to save ourselves.

About the Author:

Laurel Osterkamp’s first novel, Following My Toes, (PMI Books) won the 2008 National Indie Book Award for Excellence (Chick Lit category). She drew on her on her experiences as a high school teacher and creative writing teacher as she wrote Starring in the Movie of My Life.  She lives in Minneapolis with her husband, son, and daughter, and is working on her third novel.

Blood Like Poison *Destined for a Vampire* by M. Leighton

Ridley Heller thought that all her problems would be over if she could have Bo back—back from the dead. But what Ridley didn’t know was that her wish would come at a price.

Bo survived a condition that would have killed a lesser vampire, or any vampire for that matter. The only reason he didn’t die is because of who he is, someone Ridley doesn’t know at all. Someone Bo himself doesn’t know at all.

As Ridley gets closer to finding out Bo’s true identity, she discovers that loving him could also come at a price, a price much higher than she ever could have imagined. The question is: is there any such thing as a price too high to pay for Bo? For his love, for his safety, for eternity in his arms?
From Goodreads About M. Leighton

I was born and raised in the United States, and I’ve lived in several of the fabulous fifty. Though I currently live in the deep South, I spent much of my childhood up North and hope to return there one day. A few other things about me: I believe that sometimes you have to look really, REALLY hard to find the good in people, but it's there. I believe that I'm shrinking (I swear five years ago I was two inches taller). I believe my husband is quite possibly one of the most amazing men in the entire world (I can't be sure because I haven't met all of them). I believe coffee and chocolate, when combined, could be the basis for world peace. I believe that Jesus rocks and communism doesn’t. I believe that white makes me look fat and black collects lint. I believe summer's too hot, winter's too cold and fall was made for football. I like dogs better than cats and the first movie in a trilogy is invariably the best. But most of all, I believe that love conquers all.

Review:
If you watched my vlog review of book 1 you know that book one was an emotional ride! Usher in Destined for a Vampire and you have a different kind of emotional ride! The story picks up where the other left off and I was still heartbroken.  This story made me a tangled mess :) but in a great way. The author has a way of writing that is beautiful and heart wrenching. It is so engrossing that you cannot stop, because you HAVE to see what comes of everyone and what the heck is going on.

Ridley... man in this one she is put through the ringer. Emotionally and physically she is drained yet she keeps going for Bo. Friends disappear, turn on her.. and her family is a painful MESS! All of this still makes Ridley who she is and you feel everything right along with her.

Bo... *sigh* he really pulled at my heart this go round.. well I'd say he has from the start but even more so this time. His love for Ridley and hers for him transcend all else. He wants to protect her more than anything in the world, but he cannot stay away from her and she doesn't want him to. Really I could go on and on about him. The way he is so gentle with her then can be a fiery ball of passion.

This one had things come out that well I didn't see coming at ALL! especially the end umm yeah this is me...

And so now I am diving right into book 3!! Really this series is great! If you love PRN and Romance well what are you waiting for? GET IT!

For as long as she can remember, 17-year-old Alexis Forbes can hear the thoughts of others. Most recently, she is disturbed by the dark, unfamiliar voice of a frightening killer: callous, cunning, charismatic…and dead.

She hears his every sinister thought. But she can’t tell anyone. No one would believe her. Alexis is suddenly being haunted by a terrifying past she doesn’t remember, and a ghost with a serious score to settle. Even Chance, the gorgeous new guy she’s falling for, has his own ghostly secret. He’s definitely not like any guy she’s ever met. Alexis soon discovers she has a connection to the dead and it runs much deeper than she could ever imagine. And if the sociopathic entity has his way, she’ll finally be sentenced to the fate she escaped thirteen years ago.

My Review:

I was so excited to read this! Taryn has a way with words and this book is NO exception. Whispering Hills is like no other story I've read. It has mystery, suspense, action, and of course Romance! It's a Ghost Story...a love story and man do I enjoy both of those :)

The story line is so interesting and has loads of twists and turns but not so much that you get lost. It is just the right amount and it will KEEP you turning the pages to find out what is happening next. You think one thing is going on and wham! nope that is so not it... I LOVED IT! Not much surprises me anymore with as much as I read well this totally did.

Alexis, wow this poor girl *not really* but she can hear things others can't and she has done great with it...where someone else might go crazy or use it for bad. She has an great family and some good friends. When Chance comes on the scene well everything else fades to the back.

Do you see that over there ------ > yeah that is my Chance! Devastatingly handsome and sweetness to go with it! He is mysterious which of course makes you want to know all that more about him! As you read you learn more about him and in the end you will love him even more...yes it's possible! His life has not been easy, but he is loyal and trusting and kind.

The "friends and enemies" are all amazing also! They have some of my favorite lines. Funny and scary all rolled in together makes for great support! All in all this book has it all and more!

Blood like Poison: Destined for a Vampire

Blog Tour Blood Born by Jamie Manning REVIEW + Ebook & Swag Giveaway

Waking up in a coffin hungry for blood is only the beginning for sixteen-year-old Ava Blue. When Chance Caldon, the hottie who dug her up, tells her that she’s half vampire, Ava’s world really turns upside down.

Half vamp? Ava can’t believe it...she doesn't even know what that means! Not until Aldric, a thousand-year-old vampire, shows up and tells her it’s true--and that he’s the one who turned her. Then Ava truly begins to believe what she is. Now, she has to deal with a sudden and powerful bloodlust, the desire to see Aldric dead, and her growing crush for Chance. Ava knows she's a monster now, she can feel it; and her life is over.

But redemption isn’t lost. Aldric is giving her a chance to regain her humanity. The price? Kill a hundred vampires, or remain a bloodsucker forever.

So Ava sets out to get her life back. But killing vampires begins a battle that could destroy everything she is working toward. In the end, Ava's decisions will forever change her life and the lives of those she loves
AMAZING Book Trailer!!!

Review:

This started off Great! and it finished the same way... I loved Blood Born. Jamie has a way with writing that drew me in and kept me engaged in the story. Ava we meet her and well she's in a coffin, buried alive she thinks. She is a well written character and stays true thoughout the book. I cannot wait to read more about her!

Meet hottie Chance, I love how mysterious he was/is. He has helped dig Ava up ... but won't explain why. He stays by her side and helps her in anyway he can. The way he's described and by his actions.. you will fall for him too.

Really great story line, great writing, amazing characters all rolled in to make this a new Fave of mine! I am eagerly awaiting the next installment from Jamie!! GET IT and Devour it NOW!

GIVEAWAY!!

I have one e-book copy of Blood Born and Swag!!
2 winners all you need to do is COMMENT, tell me ... what would your first thought be if you woke up in a coffin??

Blog Tour Stop : LACRIMOSA Vlog Reading!!

As if casting out demons isn’t hard enough, five-hundred-year-old Nesy has to masquerade as a teenage girl to do it. Nesy is the best of the warrior angels called Sentinals. She never makes mistakes, never hesitates, never gets emotionally involved. Until she meets Aydan.
He is evil incarnate; a fallen angel that feeds off the souls of others. Everything Nesy is supposed to hate.  But she can’t, because he’s also the love of her former life as a human girl—a life that ended too soon, tying her to emotions she was never supposed to feel.
Now Nesy must choose between doing her duty—damning Aydan to the fiery depths of hell—or saving him, and condemning herself.
