Witch Hearts Synopsis:

How does a witch stay safe if a killer can get through her protection spells?

Witches like Ruby and Courtney can take care of themselves. So when Courtney is murdered, Ruby’s world crashes to a halt.

The only thing keeping her grounded is the return of Courtney’s brother, Cooper. He seeks revenge, but Ruby wants to help other witches stay alive. To do that, she’ll have to reunite with her old coven’s High Priest, who also happens to be her cheating ex-boyfriend.

If that wasn’t awkward enough, when the killer gets too close, Cooper temporarily moves into Ruby’s place while a police officer tails her every move. Cooper’s presence distracts Ruby as they fight their desire against their need to stay safe. Then Courtney begins to haunt Ruby’s dreams and secrets are spilled, things from Cooper’s past that could get them both killed. The killer continues to stalk Ruby and the more she discovers, the more she fears she won’t be able to keep her heart in her chest.

Excerpt:
Cooper and Ruby hopped on his bike and drove back to her place. She even managed to peek out from beneath her helmet to see the city whip past her in a blur. When they finally came to a stop, she untangled herself from him - albeit a tad regretful about it - and handed him back the helmet.

“Thanks again for everything tonight. I know it wasn’t the most fun you could have, but I want everyone to be safe,” she said.

“I understand. I’m glad I went, too. I don’t want anyone else in danger. Plus, you’re good company.” He stood up as he said it, hooking the helmets on his bike.

“You don’t have walk me in or anything. I don’t want to keep you any longer than you need.”

He snorted. “You’re not keeping me from anything. I want to do it, but especially because I want to make sure you’re safe.”

Ruby bit her bottom lip. Her nerves fluttered a bit at the thought of a possible goodnight kiss. She could hardly believe how immature she sounded in her head. It’s your best friend’s brother. This is Cooper we’re talking about, a voice in her head screamed at her.

Another voice spoke up. Yeah. It’s Cooper. And your thoughts about him have never been exactly brotherly.

Shaking both voices away, she swiped her key fob by the entrance door and Cooper held it open for her. They took the stairs up to the second floor and walked around the corner to her apartment. Ruby stopped as soon as she saw her door.

“Something’s wrong,” she said.

“What? How can you tell?” He looked up and down the hallway.

“There was a barrier when I left. Remember I checked, put my hand on the door when we left? My spell was in place.”

“There was a soft glow on the door,” he said absentmindedly, as though remembering. His eyes narrowed and Ruby could see his veins throb in his neck as his jaw tightened.

“Only witches would be able to see it, but it’s not there.” Ruby took a few steps forward, placing her hand on the door, which was now simply cool and wooden. She retrieved her key and turned the lock, but Cooper stopped her.

“I’ll go in first.”

He swung the door wide open; he held his hands up in case of a fight or a spell, but silence greeted them. Cooper did a quick sweep of the apartment while Ruby waited in the entryway. He returned with Aziza in one arm and a letter in his hand.

“This was on your coffee table,” he said grimly. “Aziza was hiding behind the couch. She hissed until she realized it was me.”

Ruby took the note from him. As she opened it, Cooper stood beside her to read over her shoulder.

“Not all witches are equal. Some are born with extraordinary gifts; anyone can practice, but few are truly powerful. You are one of the lucky ones, Ruby. I apologize about your friend Courtney. She was powerful, but nowhere near your capabilities. I’m afraid that in order for my powers to thrive, yours must come to an end. I’ll be seeing you very soon. -X”

Until I Break

In love, sometimes what you fear most is exactly what you need.

Laura Drake is an author. She writes bestselling paranormal romances that continue to top the charts. She is sharp. She is confident. She is in control.
And she doesn’t exist.
Samantha Jansen is the woman behind the wig, the woman most of the world doesn’t know exists. She is shy. She is insecure. She is nothing like her main character or her alter ego. She is scarred—deeply scarred—by a past she can’t let go of and a present she can’t make peace with.
Samantha’s dreams are consumed by one man, the broken hero from her books. Mason Strait is both her wildest fantasy and her most terrifying nightmare.
When Samantha meets Alec Brand, a corporate consultant, it is as though Mason has come to life. Alec is handsome to a fault, as elegant as he is arrogant, and more intense than any man has a right to be.
Samantha is soon sucked into a world that mirrors the fiction she writes. Just like her main character, Daire Kirby, Samantha finds herself unable to resist the forbidden lure of Alec. And just like Daire, she also finds that she is faced with taking a chance on a man who could either set her free or destroy her.
The scale tilts toward destruction when Samantha finds out that Alec is as much a work of fiction as Mason. And he has scars of his own, scars that could ruin them both.

UtopYA Author Interview *Suzanne Cox*

We've been on a small break but we are back today
with more awesome author interviews for UtopYA

Meet - Suzanne Cox

- What is the one book of yours (if you have more than one) that you would suggest a fan
read before going to UtopYA?

Probably Marked from my werewolf series since the next book Relentless will be out just
before conference. Unless you really are into Atlantis then they might want to read my
sic-fi dystopian Breathe.

Marked (The Pack, #1)

- What is your favorite paranormal element/character to read (angels, vampires,
werewolves, time travel etc.)

Werewolves!! Umm Alcide anyone?? Just saying'

- How many books do you find yourself getting to read a month?

It seems I hardly have time to read an actual BOOK anymore between work and writing but I do listen to audiobooks and I do 2 to 3 a month. I have a thirty minute one way drive to work!!

- Do You have an Author you are dying to meet at UtopYA?

All of them. I couldn't pick one.

- Random question ALERT if you are a coffee drinker what’s your fave flavor/kind?

Gloria Jean's Butter Toffee for my Keurig

- Random question ALERT part 2, what's your writing snack to have on hand?

No snacks allowed when writing. You have to stop writing to eat it. LOL!!

- Are you going as a Panelist, an Exhibitor or just as an Author to learn more?

As an author only to learn!! And I know I will learn a lot and of course have a great time.

- Can you give us a small excerpt from one of your books?

She didn’t respond immediately and I met her eyes for as long as I could before I
finally had to stare at the floor.
“You’re probably right about that,” she said at last. “But if a Lycernian is caught
killing humans they’ll be put to death by the council. That’s just the way it is.”
“I understand that.”
“I’m just making sure.”
“Aunt Louise, I wouldn’t kill people.”
She didn’t answer. I turned away until I heard the door to the bedroom click shut so
she couldn’t see my face. For Louise it was all cut and dried, white or black. Life wasn’t
really like that was it? I felt certain there had to be some gray areas in there somewhere.
Eric’s pack attacked and used humans, but that didn’t mean Eric was like that. I forced
myself to let go of the sheet. The door to Louise’s bedroom opened and she slid into the
banquet again. I noticed she’d changed into the long black coat and corset looking top that
made up the fighting suit of the Lycernians.
“Do you want to go out and meet the team coming in from the island with me?”
“The cleaning crew, you mean?’
“Yes that’s what I mean.”
I didn’t answer immediately. Couldn’t really. Did I want to see what had happened to
the people we’d seen in the woods? Louise would tell me when she came back. It was
different that way, just hearing about people being killed. It separated you from the reality
of it. But to actually see the blood or see the people naked and receiving the injections that
would keep them from becoming werewolves, that was something that stuck in your head.
Forever. I chewed my lip as she waited quietly for my response. I’d chosen to do this, to
take on this life. What if one day I was a cleaner? I had no idea what I’d end up doing after
my training. And I guess, inside me, there was the slightest hope that maybe the people
wouldn’t be injured, that the Fenryrians wouldn’t end up being the evil monsters that
Louise kept saying they were. Eric wasn’t a monster, at least no more of one than I was.

-What if we want to stalk you? Where can we do that....

When thirteen year old Nicky Moore’s parents decide to buy a small summer beach cottage at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, she thought her life would end. It didn't matter the beauty of the area - land and water as far as the eye could see - she was bound and determined to make her family’s summer vacation as dismal as she felt. That was until she met a boy from down the beach; a beautiful boy, with the most intense brown eyes she had ever seen and a smile that could light the ocean on fire. A summer that Nicky thought was doomed from the start, turned into a summer that she would never forget; one full of firsts. It was impossible for her to know years later how one seemingly little decision could change everything forever, but soon, as an adult, Nicky will find out that everything she once thought were real and the promises once made, were lost in a sea of inner turmoil.

Promise Me This by Sarah Ashley Jones - Book Blurb

Today is a special day!!
It's my marvelous friend, Sarah Ashley Jones, birthday!!
Happy birthday my lovely!  In honor of her b-day Sarah has decided to release the blurb to her upcoming NA Contemporary Romance

Promise Me This by Sarah Ashley Jones
A NA Contemporary Romance
Expected to Release Summer 2013

BLURB:
Welcome to the South - where the tea is sweet and the accents are sweeter. This Southern way of life is all Charlie has ever known.  It’s not until she loses the only person who pushed her to break free of the Southern Belle mold that she starts living the life she needs and not the life her parents forced on her.

Jhett has lived on the edge for as long as he could remember - constantly teetering back and forth between being a rock star and living a normal life.  His rebellious and sometimes arrogant attitude is known to get him into trouble, especially with the girls who hang on his every move.

Charlie never thought that a trip to pack up her brother’s apartment would leave her feeling even more unsettled about the grainy details of her brother’s death.  Her quest for information leads her straight to his old hangout and into arms of Jhett, who suspiciously knows more about her situation than he ever should.

Only a few questions remain - Can you trust someone based on their word alone? And if you make a promise, how far will you go to keep it?

TEASER: Here's a little treat from Jhett's POV.
“It’s kind of hard to think when you have me in such a compromising position.”  She wiggled against the hands beneath my grasp.  I never held her hands down too tight or against her will, but I’d figured out what she liked, and it was exactly that.
“I could guess one thing you’re thinking about right now.”  I let go of one wrist, which left me free to explore the curves underneath me that continued to drive me wild.  My hands slid down her chest and side, blazing a trail straight to her thighs.  Her unsteady breaths let me know that she was enjoying every minute of the sensuous torture I had planned.
Charlie’s hand slipped up to my face, and she locked her eyes onto my own; the deep blue color acting as my kryptonite.  “I’ve only got one thing on my mind…”   The soft pad of her thumb ran across my bottom lip, sending a shiver down my spine.  She caught me off guard as she pressed her lips on mine with only the slightest amount of pressure, causing me to breathe in deep through my nose.
“How many hours of sleep you’re going to get after I rock your world all night?”  I couldn’t even recognize my own voice anymore.  It was deep and husky, filled with a kind of need and lust I’d never heard come out of my mouth.
Charlie took my earlobe into her mouth, only running her teeth lightly over it before she released my sensitive flesh.  “What bathing suit I’m going to wear tomorrow at the bonfire…”
