Emma Kings lives with her adoptive father and 3 other kids all of whom are unique in their own ways.  Emma has the ability to feel(touch) things and know what they are feeling or just right down to the texture of things (because of this gift, her tolerance to elements/pain is very low).  Two of the other kids who live with her is Pastor who can hear  further than anyone else and Jay who can see things.  Emma's life is "normal" as can be until Gage shows up and tells her that there is more to their gifts than they know about.  They are a part of a Circle that will have to go tho the Gathering and hopefully be the first Circle to defeat the long living Cadence.

Right from the beginning I felt some sort of connection with Emma.  I'm not sure what exactly pulled me to her, perhaps it was how she kept to her self except for those that were really close to her.  So when Gage came into her life and she felt a special "spark" with him, I knew he was going to have an integral part of her life :) Emma finds out that her, Pastor and Jay are part of a Circle (a group of 6 individuals with special abilities...touch, hearing, sight, smell, taste, and seer (sixth sense) who will be summounded to the Gathering.  The Gathering was initiated by the original Circle, known as The Cadence to try and break the circles as they are trying to fill the last spot in the Candence so that their powers can be beyond what is imaginable.  Emma learns about herself, her friends and what truly is important to her throughout the story.

The story line moved smoothly and I didn't seem like their was a lull or information overload throughout the story. I definitely would recommend this book to my friends to read!

“What time do you get off work?” he asked.

I turned and narrowed my eyes at him. “I close at six. Then I have to balance the register, so around six thirty.”

Ethan looked down at his hands for a second, then glanced up at me through his thick lashes. “You want to get something to eat when you’re done?”

I licked my lips, his dark brown eyes pulling me in. I tore my gaze away and tried to focus on the computer screen. He didn’t say anything for a few moments, and I fidgeted, knowing he was watching me. When I turned toward him, his expression was so intense that my stomach somersaulted.

“Just one time,” he said quietly.

“What?”

“Say yes, just one time.” Ethan slowly moved behind the counter, his eyes never leaving mine.

“If you don’t have a good time, fine. But, I’ve been trying to get you to give me a chance for years. Don’t act like you didn’t know.”

I shook my head slightly as he approached, wanting him closer but afraid of what it would mean.
He stopped, his brow creasing. “I won’t hurt you,” he whispered.

His expression was so earnest my mind went blank for a moment.

“Ethan,” I began, my thoughts scrambled. “You know I’d like to—”

“So say yes.”

I looked up at the ceiling. I was tired of always pushing him away. If I went out with him once, maybe then I could convince him too that this was a bad idea. I covered my face with my hands.  “All right,” I mumbled through my fingers.

“What was that?” I felt the warmth of Ethan’s hands as he pulled my own away from my face.

“I said all right,” I repeated, my insides fluttering.

He gathered my hands and pulled them close to his chest. His scent, clean and fresh like sun-warmed denim, made my knees go weak.

With his head tilted back, he exclaimed in a mock reverent tone, “Yes! Thank you! Six-thirty on the dot. Be ready. I’m picking you up!”

Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. Hello, I'm Mallory a reviewer here at SupaGurls. I am really excited to be here and to have read this book. It's nice to meet you all my pretties! So without further babbling (because it'll happen) I'm going to present my review of Entanglement by Dan Rix.

My Review

5 Stars

*I thought about this for a long time after finishing it, the entire time I was writing the review in fact. It deserves 5 stars in my book because I'm still obsessing over it in my mind, I can still feel my heart pounding from the roller coaster the last half of the book took me on. I was attached and thoroughly invested and any book that can make me ache, cheer and defend fictional characters is a work of art. It wasn't just a great story, it made me think and twisted me up inside with excitement. So five stars.*

I was attracted to the story from the beginning; Dan Rix wasted no time diving head first into a plot that kept my head spinning. It was well thought out and the world Rix created in Entanglement and the concept was intricate and suspenseful. I was engulfed by the first few chapters and drawn into Aaron Harper’s world where halves are determined when you’re born. There’s no choice, you have no say and on your eighteenth birthday you meet the other half of your soul. Except Aaron doesn’t buy the “halves” concept and neither does the new girl he meets Amber Lilian.  

Entanglement is full of complex characters and a web weaved with secrets, destinies, tangled life lines and two teen agers fighting for their rights and each other. Both Aaron and Amber are trapped in their own downward spiral of self-destruction when they meet, each of them giving up for their own reasons. Oh, how the story began unfolding at an alarming rate after they meet, as they continue stirring up more trouble than they could imagine trying to save each other before it’s too late. Aaron Harper or number eleven is a strong willed, teenage heart throb that any girl will fall for and there’s something about his character that sucked me in and I wanted to know more, to see what made fueled his temper. Amber is feisty and just as engaging, she fights everybody the entire time, she never gave up and was just as smart as Aaron and they complimented each other. The snappy dialogue and complicated relationships and circumstances kept me guessing. The supporting characters were a delight because I was never sure who was good or evil and if anybody (or who I expected) was going to step in. Dan Rix’s use of their roles and ambiguity about their true loyalties made the story even more thrilling and detailed.

*Seriously this is how I felt with almost every turn of the page. I probably even made the same face. I really wish I could tell you but I prefer to leave out as many spoilers as possible*

I really enjoy stories like this where at the end everything comes together smoothly and blends until you’re convinced you just witnessed the whole thing literally. Entanglement was full of those wonderful awkwardly amazing moments that steal your breath and demand you keep reading until the wee hours of the morning and I even found myself holding my breath scared to keep reading. The way it's written as a countdown until his eighteenth birthday and his scheduled "halves" meeting built up the momentum and intensity as time drew closer until there was no time left. (I mean what happens when you know the impossible is coming?)

*and then of course there was this face as I chanted please and begged that what I was reading wasn't really true or happening and that it was a trick.*

At one point I thought the entire book changed and as I kept reading I realized Dan Rix did introduce something that changed everything and the need to finish the book was undeniable. I tuned everything out from my step-mom to the radio in the background and all I heard was the words as I kept reading. Completely lost in the story and fidgeting with excitement. My heart is still throbbing from the explosive ending to Entanglement.

My favorite line and I highlighted a bunch was “the task is not to see what no one has yet seen; but to think what nobody has yet thought about that which everybody sees.” Because then I found myself wondering if I missed a key clue. But I didn't the ending was a complete surprise and definitely left me wanting more.

How can it get any better than winning an ereader? Well, getting a look at the book that started this awesome giveaway of course! First, let's set the mood...








          I think this song fits so well for the whole book. If you have read it - do you hear it? I can hear Brady singing  it to Karis lol. I listened to this song while writing Ageless Sea and it is on my playlist over on Spotify, should you want to listen to the whole "soundtrack" I used. Can you pick out any songs for certain scenes???







           While writing Ageless Sea I didn't sleep much, my keyboard became my pillow. From beginning to end, my characters kept me on my toes. They changed into amazing people that I am happy to share with you. Ageless Sea started off with a dream I had in the middle of the night. I remember rolling over and grabbing my phone to take notes because it was perfect and since then I haven't been able to get Karis or Brady too far out of my mind.



            One thing I didn't realize until I started writing, was that Brady was funny. I laughed out loud many times while writing and my family would look at me with that 'she's losing it' look and move on. Here is a part of one of the first scenes where he shows his humorous side:

“What is that?”

Karis looked up
from the fire with a scowl. “Dinner. What did you think it was?”

“Oh no, I’m not
eating that, that thing.” Brady pointed at the sea urchin she held in her
hands.

She let her
shoulders droop. “We don’t eat the whole thing, just this part.” She dangled a
small portion of it with her fingers.

“Oh hell no!” He
held his hands up. “I won’t eat Rocky Mountain Oysters, what makes you think
I’d eat them off a sea creature.” He placed a hand over his mouth. “I think I’m
gonna be sick.”

She laughed. It
never crossed her mind that eating that part of the urchin would be distasteful
to him. She’d eaten them for so long it was like second nature.

Karis shrugged. “We
could go fishing if you prefer?”

“Yes, I prefer.” He glanced at the urchin one
more time and cringed. “Can you please just toss it out or something? I can’t
believe you eat those.”

Karis rolled her
eyes at him. “For such a strong guy, you’re sure weak.” She picked up the
basket of urchins and laid them aside.  “So are you fishing or am I?”

He grabbed the
fishing basket and started down the trail. “I think I can figure it out.”

I love to write fantasy, so it was fun to create the world's inside this book. Romance with fantasy, that is my favorite, so that is what I did. I can't tell you how much you all mean to me. I love that you enjoy my stories as much as I do and how excited you get with your favorite characters... or sometimes even the messages about how you lost sleep because you couldn't put the my book down, makes me happy. I love hearing from all of you and can't thank you enough. I really hope you love Karis and Brady and their journey as much as I do!
