by Maile Meloy
It's 1952 and the Scott family has just moved from Los Angeles to London. Here, fourteen-year-old Janie meets a mysterious apothecary and his son, Benjamin Burrows - a fascinating boy who's not afraid to stand up to authority and dreams of becoming a spy. When Benjamin's father is kidnapped, Janie and Benjamin must uncover the secrets of the apothecary's sacred book, the Pharmacopoeia, in order to find him, all while keeping it out of the hands of their enemies - Russian spies in possession of nuclear weapons. My Review:
5x5
Let me start with...This is not my usual cup of tea. However, I love reading in general and this had a very interesting summary, So I am glad I got to be in on this tour!
The cover art is eye catching and very well goes with the story inside the book. This is a very good stand alone read. The Characters are all well developed and interesting in their own ways. You have a lovely and strong female lead and the male lead is a great match-up. All of the other characters are funny and quirky at times.
The story itself is unique and entertaining although after starting it I really didn't think I was going to enjoy it at all... but as it went along and the story developed I was thoroughly surprised and got carried away on an adventure!
If you like/want something thrilling, adventurous, suspenseful, and a tad bit of romance thrown in make sure and pick this great read up on OCT. 4th 2011!!
Big Thank you again to Once Upon a Twilight for hosting the ARC book tour!
