Initiation By Imogen Rose Blog Tour Stop** Review & Character Interview & Giveaway

Initiation
By Imogen Rose
Genre: paranormal YA

DESCRIPTION

Welcome to Bonfire Academy!

Set in the foothills of the alpine mountains in St.Moritz, this exclusive private school caters to a special kind of student. Enter at your own risk... but if you are human, you may not want to enter at all.

WARNING: This YA story is set in a school for paranormals who are very different from normal human teens. Thus, the language and some scenes might not be appropriate for younger YA readers. Recommended for those sixteen and above.
Meet Imogen Rose

Imogen Rose is the author of the bestselling YA series, the Portal Chronicles. She was born in a small town in Sweden and moved to London in her twenties. After obtaining a PhD in immunology from Imperial College, she moved with her family to New Jersey, where she’s been based for the past ten years.

For as long as she can remember, Imogen has dreamt stories. Stories that continued from night to night, from dream to dream. So, even as a child, going to bed was never an issue, just an anticipation of the story to come.

PORTAL, Imogen’s first novel, would have remained in her imagination, to be shared only with her daughter, Lauren, had her eight-year-old not insisted that she write it down. In the course of a month, Imogen typed while Lauren waited eagerly by the printer for the pages to appear, and a novel took shape.

The warm reception PORTAL received encouraged her to continue with the story and the Portal Chronicles. The Bonfire Chronicles is Imogen’s new YA paranormal series.

Imogen is a self-confessed Hermès addict who enjoys shopping, traveling, watching movies and playing with her dog, Tallulah.

Character Interview - Jagger... *swoon*

I have to be honest. I approached this interview with some hesitation, perhaps even a little trepidation. After all, even though I feel I know him a bit through Cordelia, I’ve never experienced Jagger directly. As he sits before me, I can empathize with Cordelia. He is impossibly magnetic, his aura both powerful and dangerous, the only release, a hint of humor gleaming in his silver-gray eyes.

IR: Jagger, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Are you excited about starting a new year at the Academy?

JR: My pleasure. I am, though I’m not exactly sure what my role will be this year. I guess I’ll find out when I get there.

IR: So, you’re not heading back as the Student Council President?

JR: I wouldn’t think so. That position is usually only awarded for a year. Plus, my time at the academy is officially over.

IR: Why are you going back, then?

JR: Mainly to keep an eye on my brother, Ryker.

IR: And Cordelia?

JR: Yes, hmm. You said that you had some questions from my fans...

IR: I do! Here is one from Sean Sweeney. He wants to know what you got Cordelia for Valentine’s Day.

JR: Myself. However, like any girl, she obviously needed a “token” as well. I got her a little secret something from Harry Winston.

IR: Nice! The next question is about Cordelia as well. Al Kunz, the infamous celeb book blogger, aka The Snake, wants to know what really happened on the slopes. He wants details.

JR: He couldn’t handle the details.

IR: LOL! There you have it, Al! Moving on... Michelle Cable wants to know what you thought when you first saw Cordelia and what you thought of that electrifying kiss.

JR: That she’s stunning is apparent to all who are lucky enough to behold her. I was struck by her beauty as soon as I saw her, when she first arrived at the academy. It was my policy to stay away from demons, though. Every kiss with her is electrifying, but I’m guessing you mean our very first kiss. I was shocked, but immediately realized what had happened.

IR: Too bad that doesn’t happen to humans. Synching sounds unbelievably intimate...

JR: It is, but the realization that one is bound forever to this one being frightening, too. That’s unnatural in the supernatural world.

IR: I can see that. Faustine seems to bridge the gap between the human and the paranormal worlds. My daughter Lauren wants to know what you think of Faustine, and Vickie Boehnlein wants to know if you’re scared of Faustine.

JR: I love Faustine. She’s like a little sister to me. I feel very protective of her, even though I know that she can take care of herself. And yes, I’m scared of her. I’d be stupid not to be. She’s one of the most powerful demons I’ve ever come across.

IR: Demons seem to like their food, meat in particular. Lynn O’Dell would like to know if you prefer filet mignon or T-bones?

JR: I’m not a demon, but I do prefer Filet Mignon.

IR: That doesn’t surprise me. I have a last question from my friend Allirea Brumley. She wants to know what’s going to happen to you next?

JR: I’m not a Wanderer, so a trip into the future to answer that is not possible. Say “hi” to her from me, though. I love her name... Allirea. Is she a faery?

IR: Ha, ha. No, I don’t think so. Thank you so much, Jagger!

Review:

What a great ride! Great and different world Imogen has created in Initiation. You have Demons, Fey, Vampires, Shape shifters and more all thrown in together...in an academy. I love reading these kinds of stories. The writing is spot on and flows well. The world building is there along the way and is creative.

Cordelia... She is a wicked amazing girl! She is smart, determined, and fierce you don't want to mess with her. Well developed throughout the story.

Quinn...Nice guy, longtime boyfriend to Cordelia. I liked him very much.  He's caring, friendly and just awesome. He's not just a random background character.

Jagger...Oh I met him and was instantly entranced :) How could I not be... Super smart, fun, extremely good looking and protective! He is not the hover kind of protective either. I could not get enough of him.

Faustine... I loved her.. she is a spunky little girl who develops very well through out the story. I am not going to go into how/why as that would ruin everything for you.

Get this and get sucked into the drama and mystery of the Academy. It's a wicked good time!

Unable to resist his diamond blue eyes and intense kisses, she is drawn into his world of darkness and closer to her impending doom.

While their desire consumes them, Dimitri is haunted by images of a bloody and deadly future. As his enemies draw near, he must find a way to save his mate from her destiny before fate destroys them both.

Excerpt

You’ve healed,” she whispered. Her voice was rough and her throat ached from her screams. “Your wounds are gone. That…that is impossible.”
Not for me,” he grated.
Her eyes narrowed. “What are you?”
He dropped his head. Why now? Why did it have to happen this way? He cursed, damning Fate for the tricks she played. He hadn’t wanted it to happen this way. He wanted them to take their time, to get to know one another before he shared his secret with her. Now he was cornered. He had to tell her or―no. He would not erase her memory; he could not disrespect her that way. He would not take the coward’s way out. He had to tell her.
His heart clenched. What if she rejected him? What if she hated him? What if he repulsed her? She was his mate, but that was no guarantee that she would understand, that she would stay with him or that she would love him.
What are you?” she demanded again, her voice shaking.
Her thoughts screamed at him. Vampire. Vampire. Vampire! He forced his gift aside, shoving it back into the darkness of his mind.
I think you already know,” he said before pulling his shirt closed.

Witches of Bourbon Street (Jade Calhoun Series, #2) by Deanna Chase **Review**

*Adult Book Review*

Jade Calhoun was never fond of her empath abilities. Now she’s discovered she has another gift she’d rather not unwrap—magic. But when her mentor, Bea, becomes gravely ill and insists Jade’s the only one who can help, she’s forced to embrace her witchy side.

It’s too bad she spent a decade shunning the magical community and never learned to harness her powers. Because time’s run out. A trapped spirit has revealed a clue to Jade’s long-lost mother. The resident angel has gone rogue and disappeared with Jade’s boyfriend, Kane. And if that wasn’t enough, her ex appears to be possessed.

To save any of them, Jade will need to find a way to control her inner white witch—without succumbing to black magic. Otherwise, she’ll lose everything…including her soul.

Review:

This is the second book in the series, and man does it pack a punch! Great follow up. The world Deanna has created in the series is so cool! Witches, empaths, ghosts, demons OH My! Love, Romance, Action, Mystery this has it all! The writing is spectacular and draws you into the story.

Jade... She is wicked awesome! She doesn't like being the way she is with good reason, which we learn way more about in this book. She is thrown into stuff she doesn't want to mess with, but must. You can see her grow as the story progresses.
Kane... oh well I don't think I can gush over him enough!! Big, Strong, Handsome, all around made of awesome! He loves Jade and will do anything to help her. They are both put through a terrible time but come out better.

If you haven't picked this series up yet, you Really need to!!

Review:

Absolutely LOVED this book! You are brought into Lauren's life with a bang... within 3 pages I was hooked. The story is fast paced and very interesting. There is of course Destiny...but there is mystery, major relationship changes, and such swoon worthy moments! You will keep on the edge of your seat.

Lauren...Very well developed character that deals with what she is going through as well as she can. She is amazing! She cares deeply about her family and her friends. Once she gets a look at Max...everything starts changing. I could not get enough of the interaction with these two!!
Max... yeah he is just incredible! Paramedic *win* Sexy *win* Protective, caring, smart and fun *Swoon* I was taken with him from the start and you will be too!

Seth... Great guy, not just a random thrown in there best friend/boyfriend kinda guy. He has depth and is well written into the story. He's romantic and funny and oh how is "line" for Lauren made me *awww* every time he said it.

The whole story is just amazing. It's not just thrown at you that hey this is destiny deal with it! It goes much deeper than that and is explained throughout the book not all at once. Makes you keep turning those pages! Also when I finished this book the ending made me look like this...

Review:

This was a very interesting book. It was not what I expected, but still very good. There is magic and different kinds of it from what your used to.  I will have to say the reason it gets a 4x5 from me is the first half of the book is slow or it was for me. There was also a lot of information thrown at you, not all at once but spread out over the book. The world created is very well laid out and visual.

Sam is a great character. He is a normal High School boy and a football star for his team. I loved how the story played out for him. It didn't change his basic nature either. He reacted very much like a teenage boy would I believe. That made him awesome to me!

All of the other characters you meet in Atlas Crown are well thought out and not just bland background props. This is a really great action packed magical adventure!

About the Author:

Natalie Wright spent her formative years growing up on a farm in Ohio. It was a fertile environment for an active imagination and an inquisitive mind. She is, however, a city girl at heart and enjoys traveling and experiencing oceans and cities worldwide. Natalie now finds inspiration in the desert environment of her home in Tucson, Arizona where she lives with her husband, daughter and her dog Molly.

Guest Post from Natalie...
Top 5 places you want to vacation in the world

1. Paris, France - because I've always wanted to picnic with my love on the banks of the Seine and explore Paris at night
2. Germany, particularly Bavaria (my great grandparents were from this region).
3. Kyoto, Japan - in the Spring for cherry blossoms
4. Tibet - I want to see Mt. Everest
5. The Galapagos Islands - because the creatures there are just plain cool and don't exist anywhere else

Top 5 Books of all time and why

I think this list is one that will change over time, but currently these are my top five:

1. Hamlet (which I know is actually a play) because I can read it over and over and still see new things. It has it all - teen angst, murder, family intrigue, great speeches.

2. The Harry Potter series (I'll count the whole series as one book) because who doesn't want to go to Hogwarts and learn how to do magic?

3. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee because it's the first book I remember reading that really moved me and stayed with me.

4. The Hunger Games series because its everything I want in a book series. I want to be Katniss even though she lives in a terrible place and situation. I can't help myself for wanting to see the Hunger Games arena even though it's gruesome. And Peeta . . .

The Hunger Games is a series I want to read and re-read. There's such depth to Suzanne Collins' writing. It's a page-turning read but with serious issues and themes woven throughout. It's fun and makes you think. Brilliant.

5. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern because after I read it I couldn't stop thinking about it. I finished it weeks ago and I'm still wishing there really was a Night Circus and I want to go to it and dress in black and wear a red scarf and eat chocolate mice. I've never read a book before where the author created so utterly and completely and believable magical world that I wish really existed. It's Harry Potter for adults.

Share your writing day with us.

My ideal writing day is to get to my desk by 8:30 a.m. and write new material until lunch. Then after lunch and social media/e-mails, I edit in the afternoon until about 4:00. That's ideal but I'd say that only happens about half of the time. If I don't get my morning writing done, then I write at night after I've put my kiddo to bed. I actually think some of my more creative ideas come when it's dark outside.

**Review** Shift by M.R. Merrick...Simply Amazing!

Devastated by the loss of his mother, Chase is trying to balance the life he’s been left with, a family he’s still getting to know, and power he never thought he’d have. He doesn’t understand why the Goddess has named him the Protector and granted him two gifts: the Mark, a tattoo that now covers his back, and the ring. But between getting interrogated by the Circle and psychic attacks from Riley, the Mark is the least of his concern. There’s a demon inside Rayna that’s fighting to be released, and it’s not her inner witch. It’s something else–a monster threatening to tear her apart.

As Chase struggles to control his magic, his enemies are closing in. Everyone has staked a claim on his ring, and destroying it may be his only chance to stop Riley. But Chase must decide if stopping him is worth risking the lives of everyone he cares about, or if protecting the ring will be enough to save his world.

This was what I did when Shift showed up in my inbox!! For good reason.. if you haven't read Exiled I have one word for ya.. WHY???

Review:

Ok so after my squeee fest... I dug in! The world Matt has created is still just as amazing. Everything flowed together as well as in Exiled. Chase has been left devastated and he must try and move forward and understand his power. This was an amazing continuation. Loads of action, mysteries, and some discoveries!

Chase is a mess. He's lost his mother, has powers that keep growing and he has no way to know what to do with them or who he can turn to. His relationships are pushed and tested and you can see him grow in this book.

Rayna... Oh I love this chick! She is all badass!! She is on the brink of shifting but into what? While she is a strong female character you get a look into the doubts and fears she does have. Her relationship with Chase is changing.. and it's a good change :)

Marcus is a strong presence in Chase and Rayna's life. He wants to protect them and help them in anyway he can. We also learn a little more of his past!

Willy!!! Oh he is going through major changes in this book. He is awesome from his chameleon skin to his shyness. He goes through Major "shifts" this go round. He grows as a character and I was so excited to see it!

Ok so I love love love this and recommend it to EVERYONE!

My Fairytale Life by Heather M. White * Review

ebook
Published January 30th 2012

17 year old Jadyn and her dad are vampire hunters. That is until her dad decides it's time for Jadyn to have a "normal" life. When he moved them to Miami, Florida the last thing Jadyn expected was for there to be vampires.

Jadyn doesn't want to have a normal life, but then she starts to make new friends. She starts to think that maybe a normal life might not be so bad after all. But soon she realizes that maybe her friends aren't "human" as she once thought they were.

On top of everything else a very powerful vampire, Tabatha, seeks revenge on Jadyn. People from her school start disappearing, and people start dying. She wants to stop the deaths, but Tabatha has other plans for her.

Can Jadyn stop the one vampire that is impossible to kill before its too late?

Review:

You are thrown into the action from the start. Jadyn is with her dad and they are Vampire Hunters. You can get a sense of what her life is like and has been since she lost her mother. Her dad wants her to have "normal" so he settles them down in Florida. No vamps there...it's sunny all the time, right? LOL

Jadyn is a great girl. She is strong and snarky. All she has had is her dad. I really did like her but I had a few problems with her... She is all about not needing anyone and she can do things on her own but when faced with something she freezes up after she gets help she is back to leave me alone I can do this on my own. So it's a back and forth thing. Like I said she just has her dad. When she gets friends she completely shuts him out :(

Her dad... not much of him is seen but what I did I liked.

Beau - Dreamy. I really liked him! He is sweet and swoony but able to protect Jadyn

Jeremy - oh how I melted LOL no really when you first meet him you think douche bag! but he grows on ya. I thought he was funny, snarky, sexy and very protective!

The world Heather builds up is great. There is action, romance and trials. Great Great Read!!

Cynden Frasier (Cyn) is a member of a group of immortal warriors, the Protectors, assigned to protect humans in Atlanta, Georgia, the epicenter of a major uprising in demon activity. When Cyn is approached by a beautiful woman in a dirty alley, he is intrigued by the fact that she can see him for what he is, a terrifying demon slayer, and still dares to approach him.

Emma Blake, a half-demon, has to convince Cyn to help rescue her sister from powerful demons. Terrified that the Protector will kill her if he realizes what she is, she still goes against every instinct and approaches Cyn for help. Despite knowing that she is leading them both into territory so wrought with treachery, neither of them may survive.
Can Cyn and Emma overcome betrayal, the ancient rules that prevent Protectors from taking a wife, unless she is his one true mate? And if they do, will it even matter?

Excerpt from Desperate Betrayal

Turn around.” His smooth voice flowed over her like velvet.
Emma tried to swallow but her mouth went dry. She turned to find he stood very close.
God help her, she’d never seen a more handsome man than the one who stood before her now. Her body screamed for his touch. She wanted to be with him, her skin against his. But she wouldn’t sleep with him as a form of payment.
What if during sex he sensed that she was part demon and killed her on the spot? But, then again, maybe he would kill her just for saying no.
She forced herself to remain calm, and placed her hand on his chest only to draw it back when the urge to caress him became too strong.
Listen Cyn. I know most women throw themselves at you. I mean you’re extremely good-lo… but, I, – I am not going to have sex with you, right now. What happened before between us, out there in the alley was because of the rush from the adrenaline after your encounter with the demon…,”She stopped babbling, at a loss for words.
Cyn stood back with his arms crossed while he stared down at her, one eyebrow cocked. His lips curved into a crooked smile.
I was going move the chair for you and ask you to come sit by the desk, so I could get some more information from you. But I see your mind is on other things.” He leaned in closer to her and his smile widened. “You said ‘not right now’, does that mean we’ll have sex later?”

Review:

I would like to start out with this was one of those books I loved so much that I am going to try really hard to keep the gushing and squeee'in to a minimum :0)

The story will grab you from the start! There is action, suspense and major sexiness!! The world Hildie has created is well thought out and amazing! The story is very engaging and it's a definite page turner. I really couldn't put it down. Emma : She is  half demon and she is in deep. She is looking for a way to save her sister and will stop at nothing to save her. Amazing character! She is strong, brave and appears fearless. Very likable and you can see how/why she does things the way she does. I really like her and wanted her to triumph. She is kinda put through the ringer.

Cyn: O.M.G. Hottness!! no really he is hottness personified!! I was instantly into him. We meet him in a dark alley throwin down with evil. Hildie does such a great job describing him and the way he moves/fights it's amazing. Also, let me just say there is more to him than just his inane hottness *yes I keep saying that don't I* He is loyal, strong of body and mind, calculating and FINE! He's a protector has FANGS!! and a Scot.. umm YES PLEASE :) Plus he is raisin a boy who is not his by blood but talk about fierce protector... Like I said this is a PAGE-TURNER!!

I usually try really hard not to compare books.. but If you like Black Dagger Brotherhood or Immortals After Dark Series This is a MUST read!!

I love when I finish a book and this is what I look like LOL
