Veer by Alyssa Rose Ivy *Review*

Recently I have found myself reading books that take place in one of three states:
1) Maine- Where I spent my elementary years
2) Alabama- Where I spent my teens and early 20s
3) North Carolina- Where I've been since 2003

I love this! I love reading about places that are special to me and seeing characters spend time in places I've been.  So I was excited to have the chance to read Veer by Alyssa Rose Ivy because I knew it took place in NC as does it's predecessor Derailed.  Although this is a series and meant to be read in order I did what I typically do when I want to read something right away and skipped over book one to  read Veer first.  If you can control yourself read Derailed first since the main characters from that one are secondary in Veer but it is not a must and if you are like me and the thought of a "former MLBer turned hot local cop" gets you going just go ahead and read Veer first, it's okay, rules are meant to be broken ;)

Let me tell you about Veer:

For starters- look at the cover, I love it.  I would really like to see what our cover model looks like face on because his profile is delish!

Moving on now...to say beautiful Becca has had a rough year would be an understatement.  The death of her mother and the loss of her summer job has sent her to North Carolina where she runs into the aforementioned hot cop, Gavin.  After a series of run-ins where they both let their preconceived notions turn them into petty jerks they discover they actually like each other and that their attraction to each other is amazingly hawt!  Both of their pasts hold items that causes pain and roadblocks for them if they choose to pursue a relationship and Becca's temporary status as "visiting for the summer" becomes a major hiccup for them to get over.  Falling in love when you don't know where you belong is not always the best thing to do and now that Becca might be heading that way she, and Gavin, have a lot they need to work out.

Veer is a fun New Adult Contemporary Romance full of realistic friendships and relationship drama.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and do look forward to now picking up Derailed so I can see the 'rest of the story'.

If I had to nitpick with the Veer I would say there are three things that I would have liked to seen done a bit differently that would have made this a FIVE feather for me.  First, there is a side story with Becca's new boss and friend of Gavin's, Matt, that starts to go somewhere but never really gets resolved, I could have done without it or made it more of a chance to allow Gavin to be a hero.  Second, I would have liked Gavin and Becca to banter a bit more with each other before they jumped into things and lastly I would have liked a little more steam!  Since this is marketed as New Adult our gorgeous cop, and former baseball play (baseball players are hot are they not?) could have steamed things up just a bit more for us.

As for the swoonworthyness of our man he is right on target.  Gavin can certainly be a jerk but once he allows himself to admit to his feelings he is a class act and romantic.  The things he does, with a little help from her BFF Molly, would make any girl swoon.  As a side note another swoonarific (yes, I like to make words up!)  guy, Jake, pops in here and I am totally waiting for his story to be told because he is pretty darn yummy himself!

So all in all I give Veer 4 fluffy feathers.  If you're a reader of Contemp romance you should certainly like this fun little romp through the North Carolina coast.  Let me know if you've read it and what you think below, I want to hear from you!
