Character Promo : Legend of the Blue Eyes by B. Kristin McMichael

Arianna Grace liked her boring, Midwestern, teenage life where she ignored the many unanswered questions of her childhood. Why were her parents dead? Why did she not have family? Where was she raised until she was five? When someone offers to explain it all, Arianna thinks she's just getting answers. Instead, she is thrown into a world of night humans who drink blood.

On Arianna's sixteenth birthday, her world is thrown upside down when she changes into a vampire. Night humans, or demons, as some call them, live in normal society. Learning all of the new rules of a world she didn't know existed might be hard enough, but it's further complicated by two former-friends that now want to help her take her role as the successor to her grandfather.

There is a war going on between the night humans. Sides have been taken and lines are not crossed. Four main clans of night humans are struggling for control of the night. Divided into two sides, clans Baku and Tengu have been at war for centuries with the clans Dearg-dul and Lycan. That is, until Arianna Grace finds out the truth; she's the bridge of peace between the two sides. But not everyone wants peace. With the night humans divided, Arianna is now a pawn in the war between them. She must choose a side--her mother's family or her father's--and for once in her life, decide her own fate.

Thank you so much Heather for asking me do a promo post. It’s always great to interact with readers and shed some insight into the characters. You spend hours writing about imaginary people that live only in your head. They have likes and dislikes and personalities, but what goes down on the paper is all anyone sees of them. This is a chance to show more about the main characters in my novel The Legend of the Blue Eyes. When Heather suggested a post about what my characters like to eat- I had to smile. A food post is right up my alley. I am endlessly cooking and baking and trying new recipes on my family. Baking is one of the things I do to relax actually. When I was in my undergrad, my roommates always knew when a big test was coming because I’d be in the kitchen making cookies. I still get that way. What better thing to do when stressed is make cookies??!!
So onto my characters. Obviously if you’ve read the books you know that several of my characters favorite food would be blood, they are night humans that live on blood after all. But like anyone, they should have more than one favorite (and Devin doesn’t drink blood, so he has to have a favorite food). Below are the favorites for Arianna, Devin, Andrew, Thomas, and Turner- the main characters in The Legend of the Blue Eyes and throughout the trilogy.

Arianna - Lemon meringue pie. Tart with a little bit of fluff on top- just like Arianna. She might seem all passive and nothing but fluff- but under that she really is strong enough to take the role she was born to play; you might just have to get through all three books to see it, but passive Arianna needs to grow up a bit before people see that layer underneath her.

Devin - Chicken and apple pie. Devin is the sort that likes lean meat and actually cares about what he eats. He’s meticulous with everything else in his life, why wouldn’t he be with food also. He has two favorites though, Devin is the all-American type, and how much more all-American can you get than apple pie?

Andrew - This is a hard one to decide. With his questionable home life and having spent a large part of his time locked in the basement, it is possible that he likes any kind of food he can get his hands on. I’m going to pick mac and cheese though- something that reminds you of family even though he doesn’t have one. I feel like without a family, Andrew still longs for one.

Turner – burger and fries- Turner is a lycan, essentially a werewolf, and meat is the one thing he can’t get enough of. He likes any burger from any place- as long as it is real meat (none of that vegetarian stuff). He doesn’t care particularly where it comes from as long as it is hot and fresh and hopefully a little rare.

Thomas - Oven-baked salmon with vegetables. Thomas is a health nut who is as conscious about what he puts into his body as he is about making sure he studies and gets all his homework done.

Tanya's Review:

Arianna is just like any typical teenager going through life worrying about school and all of the typical teenage girl things.  She does struggle with the death of her parents who died when she was five and since then has lived with her Aunt and Uncle who will not speak of them.

Arianna starts receiving notes stating that they knew her parents and she is happy to finally start getting answers.  That is going good until she turns 16 and changes into a vampire (actuality she is half Dearg-dul and half Baku); something she didn’t realize existed.  Now not only is she having to deal with her new life style, learning that she is the key that will end the wars between all of the clans while making a couple of strong relationships along the way.

Right from the beginning I was pulled into the story and never once did I falter in my reading so much so I read it within one day!  Arianna is forced to deal with a lot in such a short time and with all of this I could see how she is such a strong girl.

Of course like most YA books these days there is a love story included, however there is a small twist when Arianna learns she will have a keeper from all four clans and the guys who love her (Devin, Turner and then Andrew) understand that they will never be the only one.

The story line is great, everything move along swiftly but in a manner where you didn’t feel like you were missing anything or that it was moving along too fast.  All I can say is that I can’t wait for the next book!
