Farsighted by Emlyn Chand BLOG TOUR STOP

~Welcome to my little spot on the Tour~
I am posting an Excerpt & There are contests going on!
**Info on those are posted after my review but YOU GOTTA COMMENT TO WIN**

Today I'd like to share an excerpt from Emlyn Chand's hot new paranormal novel, Farsighted (it just released on 10/24). Before diving in, check out this teaser for the book:

Alex Kosmitoras may be blind, but he can still “see” things others can’t.  When his unwanted visions of the future begin to suggest that the girl he likes could be in danger, he has no choice but to take on destiny and demand it reconsider.

Okay, now that you're caught up, on to the excerpt! I hope you'll enjoy it.

Almost Kiss

an excerpt from Farsighted, chapter 7

Simmi and I arrive at this rally point together from Mrs. Warszynski’s to wait for Shapri. Several minutes go by. I want to suggest we leave without her but don’t think that’ll score me any points with Simmi.

“You didn’t want Shapri to come tonight, did you?” Simmi asks.

“Well, I—no, I mean, it’s fine. I’m glad she could come,” I sputter.

“You’re such a horrible liar,” Simmi teases, pushing me playfully.

“Hey, that’s not fair. I can’t hit you back. You’re a girl.”

“I’m just teasing you.” Simmi blows a raspberry and pulls her body up onto the circular wall surrounding the flagpole area. I hesitate before pulling myself up too. Simmi scootches over so we touch at the hip. She loops her hand through the crook of my arm and places her head on my shoulder. “I never would have gotten away with this in India,” she says. “But I’m glad I can here. I’m a psychic feeler. I need to be in touch with others.” She pauses and strokes my arm with her free hand. “You know, when I touch someone I can make them feel what I want them to, but I can also sense their existing emotions. It’s almost the same as being able to read minds. Everything important has to do with the heart, not logic.” She lightens her tone. “But don’t tell Dr. Brown I said that, he’d take marks off of my next chem exam out of spite.”

I laugh nervously. Is she like Miss Teak in a way? Can she read my feelings for her? If she can, why hasn’t she said anything? I contemplate reaching over and kissing her, so I can know for sure how she feels. But I’ve never kissed anyone before. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to initiate it. Do I take her out for dinner and a movie first? Or make some lengthy speech declaring my intentions? Do I kiss her, just like that? Or do I ask for her permission before making my big move?

I decide to ask if it’s okay. Simmi is a classy girl. She needs respect. I swallow, hoping the motion will open up my airway, because right now, I’m kind of having trouble catching my breath. “Simmi,” I start.

“Yeah, Alex?” She lifts her head and links her hand in mine, nudging her slender fingers in between each of mine.

“Would it be okay if I…”

“There you two are!” Shapri says, running over to us, panting heavily. “I thought we were meeting in the commons.”

“No, we agreed on the flagpole,” Simmi says, hopping down from the wall.

The moment is gone. I don’t know when I’ll get the chance and the nerve again. My opinion of Shapri transforms from cautious indifference into outright hatred. Why did she invite herself along?

Shapri clears her throat. “Did I—Did I interrupt something here? Maybe a little romance?”

“What? No, no,” Simmi says shaking her head adamantly. “Nothing like that, Alex is like a brother to me.”

Ouch. Pain. Stabbed in my heart. I’m like a brother to her? I guess this means romance is off the table…

Awesomeness ... Right?? Well below my review are the details of The Contests!! One I really want to win and hey YOU CAN TOO! So whatcha waiting for? Huh? scroll on down and get ta gettin :)

Review: 5x5
Well, this book blew me away! First off Alex is just amazing! He has depth almost like no other character I've read. That is not to say that the others are poorly written it's just this is from his point of view so you get so much more from him. I totally love all of them! The story itself evokes so much feeling and thought from the reader, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! Be prepared for a great ride that involves cultural diversity, loads of emotions, and some things that will make you go WOAHH didn't see that coming! Definitely get out there and pick this up! It's a GREAT READ!!

Review: Tempest by Julie Cross and Dream Cast Release Date 1/17/12

The year is 2009.  Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.

That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.

But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler.  Recruit… or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

My very own Dream Cast.... well I have looked and looked and all I can find for are Jackson and Holly ... *and all you get are pictures of each*

Ok so these are my picks for Jackson and Holly.

Jackson has that rugged but sexy look about him and still a fun fly by the seat of your pants kinda guy.

Holly is beautiful! She also has the brains and she knows what she wants!

Care to take a stab at who I used for my Dream Cast for these two?  Comment and I will let you know who they really are.

Review: 5x5
What a great original spin on time jumping! I love everything about it from the storyline to the characters. I can tell already this is going to be an EPIC trilogy! Julie draws you in with her amazing writing, seriously she is a master with words.

Jackson is just swoon worthy and the journey he goes on is pulse-pounding and gut wrenching! I fell for him immediately. Holly is headstrong and beautiful and a girl who knows what she wants, then we get to see a different side of her *younger* All the secondary characters are well fleshed out and amazing!

You won't know who to trust, who is good, who is bad.....Keeps you guessing the whole time. GET IT AS SOON AS IT COMES OUT... no wait go PRE-ORDER it NOW!!! you will not be sorry!

Nook Giveaway

Nook Giveaway

My Halloween Favorites!

Hi!
Rachel here! One of my favorite things about Halloween is the spookiness. It's perfect to curl up with a good paranormal. Here are some of my favorite halloween creeps.

First up,

Forensic Mystery (series) by Alane Ferguson –

It’s about a girl named Cammie. She’s the coroner’s assistant…and she solves lots of creepy mysteries (thus the name…)I’m not going to go into all of these (you can read my review for that *hint, hint, wink, wink*) but it will literally give you CHILLS. Creepy. I hear the author is thinking about writing more, I hope she does. Whatever you do don’t  read these in the dark. I did. It adds to the atmosphere….

No! not the ozone, I’m talking about the…aura, the fuzzy feeling...etc.. J

NEXT:

This Dark Endeavor by Kenneth Oppel

It’s the prequel to Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’ how cool is that? You get to experience Dr. Victor Frankenstein’s teen adventure…and learn the truth behind his madness. It was an amazing story. You’ll never regret reading it.

And Last but not least – Dark Eden by Patrick Carman

I’m going to go more into this one, because the giveaway is related to it.

In fact  This is my review:

My Synopsis:

The last thing Will Besting wanted to do, was be stuck on a bus with six other teenagers. They all had one thing in common: fear. They were all sent by Dr. Stevens to do the impossible, cure their fears. Dr Stevens had said she knew a man who could cure their fears. As they are told to go into the forest, Will follows his instincts. He runs. He observes what goes on in this ‘therapy camp’, Dark Eden, from afar and knows one thing. Things aren’t what they seem. They aren’t going after their fears, their fears are going after them. As Will listens, one question haunts his mind. Can they cure their fears, or is fear the cure?

My Opinion:

Woah. Seriously.

This book is amazing (that word seriously does not do it justice.) *grabs thesaurus*

This book is astounding. Patrick Carman’s ‘'Skeleton Creek'’ is amazing, but I feel that this book is his best. Ever (although, I haven’t read all his books yet.) It blew the hinges off my door of expectations (no joke.) After months of anticipation, I looked at the book before me and wondered if maybe my expectations were too high.

*snorts* yeah, right.

If you read one book this year, this should be it. Will grabbed my attention and more importantly, my emotions. As Will tells his tale you become mesmerized in something so.......…relatable and at the same time, otherworldy. As he laughs you laugh and as his heart breaks, yours breaks too. That was just so…...masterful. Perfect. Not to mention, this book had more twists in it than a stick of licorice. I cannot wait for the next installment.  For all you who want to know the ‘'negatives’': two cuss words. It didn't bother me. For all you tech/new wave people out there, the story is also told in app form. It adds to the creep factor…I half hide while watching them…..

GIVEAWAY!

Everyone loves giveaways right?

I will be giving away a mini-Dark Eden fan pack. It’ll have a temporary tattoo, a Fear Test CD and a Dark Eden Lanyard….and, some cool little extras for a friend. Including my own personal guide to throwing a (easy) harry potter party.

How does that sound? *imaginary croud cheers* Excellent…  J
Comment and I'll pick a random winner next monday. Good luck!

Bloodlines Experience Stop!!

Today Author of Bloodlines, Lindsay Anne Kendal is here to tell you all a true personal encounter since it's close to Halloween!

Hey everyone!!

Thank you very much for having me here today. It’s fantastic, and this is my first blog tour, so I’m very excited.

I’ve been asked to write a lot of blog posts lately, and I’ve been worried about what to write. The last thing I want to do is bore people to death... So, I decided, since it’s near Halloween, to share a true personal encounter with you. I’ve had a lot of these and I’ve really enjoyed sharing them with people. They’ve freaked a few people out too lol.

So for this one, I’m going to talk about one of many encounters I had with my partner, Jay, on the North Yorkshire Moors. I spend a lot of time up there as it’s the setting for my new novel ‘Leticia’ (first in a series, coming soon.) It’s beautiful there, and mostly peaceful... Mostly.

We’d been out for hours and it was now close to 9pm. We were hungry and decided it was time to call it a night. On our way home we stopped off for a cigarette and so Jay could have a drink. We parked on the Moors in Greenfield, in a little lay-by close to Dovestones Reservoir. I was busy typing away on my little netbook when Jay shot forward in his seat. He looked puzzled and told me something had poked him in the back of his neck. I couldn’t help but laugh at him.
He didn’t feel it again, and enjoyed his cigarette. When we were about to drive off, I pulled my seatbelt on and just happened to look in the side mirror. What I saw both fascinated me and actually frightened me. The was a full body silhouette stood slightly behind the car. I couldn’t make out any features, because the figure was simply black. But it was so tall, easily around 7ft. I knew wasn’t my eyes playing tricks, it was a clear night, summer – so it was still light out. When I turned around to see if I could see it through the back window it was still there. I could see its arms by its side and long legs. I was instantly filled with a feeling of dread (Something that very rarely happens to me.)
I told Jay to put his foot down and get us the hell out of there. He didn’t need telling twice.

What was worse was that as soon as we started driving, the ‘thing’ chased after us. I was panicking now; the ‘thing’ was so fast. Even when we were doing 30 mph it kept up with us. It was only when we were on a straight stretch of road and Jay could put his foot down, that the thing couldn’t keep up. At this point we were doing almost 60mph.

I’ve encountered the strange shadow twice since that night, and it’s never tried to chase us since. But it was genuinely scary. I do not scare easily, and I don’t take lightly to feeling threatened. So if ever it, whatever ‘it’ is, tries to scare me again, it’s gonna get it and get it good. (I just need to find out how!).

I hope that didn’t freak people out to much, and I can assure you every word is true. It’s a great place to visit if everyone ever gets the chance, just make sure your ready in case you encounter anything strange.

Thanks very much for having me and I hope you all have a great Halloween.

Lindsay

The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod by Heather Brewer

Eighth Grade Bites
The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod #1
By Heather Brewer

Vladimir Tod never thought school could get worse. The Principal hates him, bullies won’t leave him alone and his crush has a crush on his best friend. Not to mention, he has a killer secret, literally. His mother is human, but his father was a vampire. Although he has no idea what power he may have, the craving for blood can get a little difficult to deal with. In another turn for the worse, his substitute teacher (an expert in mythology) is asking him a few too many questions. He even had the nerve to assign Vlad an essay on Vampires. One thing about junior high sucks more than anything: the vampire killer that’s out for his fangs.

I really enjoyed this book! Vampires really aren’t my thing, I’ve read several with vamps as the main characters and none of them have ever been really good. However, Heather pulled it off very nicely. I like the classic vampire (…don’t hand me any of that sparkly junk.) Yet, she avoids clichĂ©s. I have nothing negative to say. It was fantastic. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series! (I haven’t been able to say that lately!) Can’t wait, Vlad’s adventures have a lot of promise. I recommend this book.

Review: Some Girls Bite *Chicagoland Vampires #1

*Adult Book Review*

From Goodreads:

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was Merit's. She was doing fine until a rogue vampire attacked her. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker-and this one decided the best way to save her life was to make her the walking undead.

Turns out her savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now she's traded sweating over her thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan "Lord o' the Manor" Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred- year-old vampire, he has centuries' worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects her gratitude- and servitude. But an inconvenient sunlight allergy and Ethan's attitude are the least of her concerns. Someone's still out to get her. Her initiation into Chicago's nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war-and there will be blood

Review: 5x5
Girl in the middle of her doctorate almost murdered then saved/turned Vamp.... Yes please! Highly enticing, fun and hot Vampires make for this enthralling read. I love the world that the author has created here in this story and it's all based in Chicago. The main girl, Merit.... oh how I adore her! She is smart, snarky, beautiful, and just an all around badass. Ethan, our main man, is all business....or is he? He is hot and that is really spelled H-A-W-T, but man he gets under your skin and you want more of him.

Read this for a great adventure into Chicagoland where nothing is as it seems :) GET IT NOW!! This series is going to be a must read!!

Review: 5x5
This second book in the Shadow Falls series is captivating! I started it and could not put it down. At 2am when I finished it I let out a sigh...  This story, no this world that is Shadow Falls is AMAZING! I thoroughly enjoy all the characters and the story line. A new ghost, new feelings, and new developing powers!!! What is Kylie?? well not quite sure yet... but whatever she is, she is the BOMB!

I have to confess I am all into Lucas and well there was not a lot of him, but when there is he is front and center and will grab your attention. Don't get me wrong I do like Derek...but I was just immediately drawn to Lucas. There are some really great Derek moments though. If you haven't had the chance to pick up this series WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

My Day @ Southern Festival of Books in Nashville TN

My little guy and I attended on Sat. Oct. 16th 2011 and it was such an amazing day!

First we had to drive the 2 hours to get to Nashville, TN from Crossville, TN where we live. The day started with us trying to navigate one way streets and with a 9 year old worry wart ... it was super fun LOL.  The Festival was held on War Memorial Plaza the whole weekend but we attended on Saturday. There were Publishers, Authors, Illustrators, local book chapters, *way more than I can recall*, and a huge tent for book sales!
We made sure and stop by every tent and we got tons of swag :) They had posters for the festival and we carried it around and had the Authors we met sign it for us *my son loved this*

Throughout the day they held different discussions by over 200 Authors both local and from far away. For the kids we saw characters from Llama,Llama and Little Critters and they each had a birthday party with balloons and cupcakes for everyone attending.

Since I basically drove all that way to get to meet/listen to Myra McEntire and Victoria Schwab I will tell you about my encounters with each :)

Myra McEntire Author of Hourglass

She held a discussion with fellow author Jessica Warman author of Between. Both of them were fabulous! Myra told about her book and some about herself *and let me just say from here on out I'm fangirl Heather* Really she is the funniest person EVARRR! We also got to listen to her read some from the book and LOL they way she read it was exactly the snarky sarcastic way I heard it in my head. I really don't remember much else cause I was giggling about almost everything she said. She did however give some people there really great advice about being professional when looking for agents and the like. After the discussion she signed books and she had POSTERS!!! I got one and it's all shiny and signed *side note my daughter thought she also need to put her signature on it so it also has nice smiley faces and my girlies name :( I was so sad*

Victoria Schwab author of The Near Witch you can read my review HERE

She held a discussion with fellow author Sonia Gensler author of Revenant. Very great discussion! Victoria has a way of speaking that pulls you in *she makes words very pretty!* We got to hear about their books and a background on them. Victoria also read the first chapter of her book and I could really have sat there an listened to her read it all day. No lie the lovely way she speaks the words, sentences makes it like your there if you close your eyes. *Fangirl Heather now* OH OH OH! so on the way I had my son draw her this kick A$$ picture so we could give it to her :) It was awesomesauce! also after her discussion was over and she was headed to sign pretty things, my son says: "Can we just walk up with her?" me: "Maybe....we will have to ask her" he shrugs "ok" so we go about asking her and she is like Sure! I got to talk a bit more with her and yeah *I KNOW A SECRET!!!* and no I will NOT share it :) so anyhooo my son is totally crushin on her.... even still! She signed my book and a shiny bookmark for us.

After all that it was so time to go home! 5 1/2 hours at the festival plus 2 hours there and back home whew! We had a BLAST!! and plan on being there next year too.

I will say there were also in attendance : Jackson Pearce author of Sweetly, Moira Young author of Blood Red Road, and LOADS more but they were all too early for us to attend or get to see *sad face*

I managed to snag some really great books while I was there too!

Great new Steampunk novel Thomas Riley by Nick Valentino. *awesome picture with him at the top with his fiance also an author* Ordered book from Elizabeth Darvill cause she ran out! Also, I would like to point out that they both had the most amazing outfits and I so want one like Elizabeth had.... just sayin.

Scored a signed copy of Blood Red Road since I missed Moira Young that morning YAY!!

Signed copy of God's Eye  with an awesome tote bag and some swag from author A.J. Scudiere. She was so nice, my son and I got to chat with her for a bit.

Now since we had an amazing time I am going to leave you with some random pictures we took :)

What a great read! This is not some *copycat* vamp story, it is very refreshing and original! The characters are very lifelike and have depth. You are interested in them from the start. At one point I was like some of these don't speak like teenagers but yeah they are not supposed to :)

The story line is very interesting and full of suspense and action. There is a great foundation for a great series! I cannot wait to read more from Angeline she is truly a great author. Also, there is Mirko *umm yeah* I have picked my awesomeness now you go pick it up and see!! GO GET IT !!

The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it's the start of a new life at a London boarding school. I was not sure if I was going to get into this story, I must have been in a mood when I started it though. After that I got into it and it is an incredible story! The characters are amazingly written and do not come across as fake or silly. Rory is an average girl, that said she is lovely to me.

There is a little of everything woven into this story...drama, suspense, thrills, and a smidge of romance it balanced perfectly! What is there not to love really you get London....amazing characters to follow, some ghosts, and THE RIPPER. This is book 1 in the Shades of London books and I for one cannot wait to get my hands on book #2 !!!   REALLY  GREAT READ! GET IT :)

Review: Nevermore by Kelly Creagh

Young Adult
Published August 31ts 2010
paperback 543 pages

From Goodreads:

Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game. Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.

Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.

As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

Review: 5x5 *with glitter, confetti, and some cheesecake thrown in!!

Ok I normally try not to but I may go a little fangirl here. Not since I have picked up Twilight to read *and NO I am NOT comparing the two!!* have I felt this way for a book! I literally wanted to crawl inside this book and live in the amazing story. This has also officially become my new Favorite book :)

The Goth and the Cheerleader....hmmm she made it work and made it believable. There is no ohhh dreamy love at first sight stuff here, which is refreshing. Isobel and Varen are well thought out and realized characters. You are actually going to care deeply what is going on with them, I know I do. The secondary characters are also very interesting and believable, liking some of them and hating them in the next minute. Some of the scenes with Isobel's friends are ones that I have seen similar things happen in real life and that was great!

Poe....Oh who doesn't like a little Poe? I love how she used him and wove him and his life/death into the story... you have to read it to understand it as I am not telling you :) The scenes that play out are vivid and as Isobel says at one point... The words disappear and you feel like you are seeing it instead of reading it.     GET IT , READ IT , FALL INTO IT..... no really now drop what your doing and GO!

Could Not Put It Down! I love anything that has to do with the elements *air/earth/fire/water* and yeah this book has them in spades, Plus this takes place in ... Ireland*sigh*.

The characters are so well written that you care about them. They each have depth and are not at all flat or boring. Then you think you get to know how they will react to things. Sometimes I was *gasping* oh no! and others I was *awww* that is sweet. The family is amazing and yeah its funny too.

The story line is just New and Refreshing! She weaves a great tale which is unique and full of exciting fun. I for one cannot wait until #2 comes out, Plus she was super nice and didn't leave us with a HUGE cliffhanger....whew.  If you haven't read this well you definitely need to!
